How to set up Google Search Console

Instructions

  1. Go to search.google.com/search-console and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Click Add property.
  3. Enter your website URL, select URL prefix and click Continue.
  4. Google will prompt you to verify ownership of your site. Select Google Analytics as your verification method if your Google Analytics account is already connected to your website.
  5. Click Verify. Google will detect your existing tag and verify ownership instantly.
  6. Go to Sitemaps in the left-hand menu.
  7. Enter your sitemap URL (yourwebsite.com.au/sitemap.xml) and click Submit.
  8. To link Google Search Console with Google Analytics, open Google Analytics and go to Admin.
  9. Under the Property column, select Search Console Links and click Link.
  10. Select the Search Console property that matches your website, choose the relevant data stream and click Submit.
  11. Search Console data will now appear in Google Analytics under Reports > Acquisition > Search Console. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for data to begin populating.
